Charity concert with Annie Mawson

21 March 2009, St Cuthbert's Church, Carlisle

Amabile and Poco Amabile Charity Concert with Annie Mawson in aid of Derian House and Sunbeams Charity

On Saturday 21st March Amabile and Poco Amabile gave a charity concert. The concert had been organised by Tom Clare - Chairman of Cumbria County Council, who had invited the choirs after attending the "Christmas with Amabile" concert in December. The audience included an array of visiting dignitaries - local mayors, heads of County Councils, etc.

Poco Amabile started the concert with a lovely repertoire including "Leka Nosht", "God help the outcasts", the beautiful "Song of the River" and finishing on "Can you hear me?".

Amabile then followed, entering with Caccini's "Ave Maria" and had a lively repertoire including "Gaudette" which was very uplifting within the setting of the church. Their first section finished with the ever popular and moving two traditional love songs arranged by Michael Neaum of "I will give my love an apple" and "If I were a blackbird".

Finally, before the interval, Poco Amabile returned to sing the "Mary Poppins" medley. The outfits and movement really captured the moment. The medley proved to be very popular and they were cheered from the stage. A wonderful end to the first half of the concert.

After the interval, Annie Mawson, who works tirelessly for the charity "Sunbeams", providing "Music for Life" to people with special needs through workshops throughout the North of England, took the stage. Not only does Annie sing beautifully accompanying herself on a harp, but she is clearly a warm hearted lady and a wonderful entertainer relating tales and advertising the work that she does with humour and great enthusiasm. She sang four songs from all corners of the UK - including "Danny Boy".

Finally Amabile returned, giving their own rendition of songs and cultures across the globe, from Spain, Japan, Canada, followed by two spiritual songs and the infamous "Midsummer Nights Dream", before a final encore of "Praise His Holy Name". A wonderful night and enjoyed by many.

Thanks once again to the Committee for their tireless work at these concerts and to all parents who helped look after the girls.
